What to Wear to a Ballet Class

It is getting to that time of year again where we think about getting our New Year's resolutions into action. If you are looking to get active in 2015 way not think about taking up a ballet lesson? WHY? I hear you ask, well it's a great why to tone up, lose weight, improve posture... the list can go on. Let's face it, exercising (especially in January) can be horrid. So why not dance your time away!!
This all sounds great but I know what most of you will be thinking! The idea of a Ballerina with legs flying behind her ears is something I can't do. But hey, we all have to start somewhere and who isn't to say you won't get your legs behind your ears once you have commited to class. But the real dread is WHAT TO WEAR. You want to cover your bottom, your arms or your tum. Or generally you have no idea what it is you need to wear!
Well here are my top five things you need to wear/bring.
Leotard: I know the word sounds terrible, but it's important to see the body in class. There are lots of leotards now that look really flattering, with sleeves, skirts attached, you name it. But the best tip is invest in a good black leotard. Slims the body and doesn't show those sweat marks from all that hard work!
Tights: Pink is preferred or black depending on whether a class is more relaxed or strict on uniform. Check with where you are taking class they will advise. All good dance shops will supply these!
Ballet Shoes: If you are a beginner soft canvas or leather shoes will be fine. Looking for a more advanced shoe? Try soft blocks, like pointe shoes but softer, they get you to work your feet harder.
Hair pins, Nets and Doughnuts: It's super important to keep your hair up away from your face. It also helps when dancers are turning... did you know. Most local chemists will sell hair pins, hair nets (fine hair coloured net) and doughnuts (used to create a bun if your hair is short, or like mine fine).
Lastly and most importantly WATER!!! it's so important to keep hydrated throughout class.
